Planning Preparation May 27th, 2008
Standard A1 - SAS teachers will demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
Benchmarks:
1. Displays relevant content knowledge
- Uses current examples in everyday life and able to reflect with students.
- Completes assigned tasks and use own examples as discussion points.
2. Connects curriculum and real world in a variety of ways
- Perspective Story-Writing
- Develop ideas and understanding through engaging in discussions that develop the Enduring Understanding set at the beginning of the topic/issue.
3. Demonstrates pedagogy that reflects current research on best practices
- Use of technology in the classroom and reading current research regularly.
- Completing courses through Plymouth state that reflect classroom best practices and Methodology.
- Multi-interests/purpose classroom environment through constantly changing stimuli and classroom seating arrangements.
- Utilizing several workspaces around the school and negotiating curriculum and assessment with students.
Standard A2 - SAS teachers will demonstrate knowledge of students
Benchmarks:
1. Planning allows for flexible adjustments based on students’/class needs
- Using similar rubrics that highlight 6 traits writing, and allow students to focus their skills on different criteria based on need
- Constantly using Extended Learning Opportunity for humanities work.
- Negotiating with students and prioritizing work taking into consideration the workload presented throughout all subjects and adjusting accordingly whilst maintaining a high standard and due dates.
2. Chooses content and assessment that reflect students’ knowledge, experience and developmental needs where appropriate
- Individually setting texts that will engage students through our reading program. Making sure relevance is considered.
- Varied assessment practices (oral, written, graphical, etc)
- Consideration of student needs through own, faculty and parent liaison.
3. Utilizes assessments to improve knowledge of students
- Close analysis of IOWA and ERB scores to constantly improve standard.
- Tailor lessons once reflections and assessment for prior assignment have been completed.
- Develop work considered to be fun through blogging/ research that engages students…school without walls.
Standard A3 - SAS teachers will demonstrate effective planning and organization
Benchmarks:
1. Designs instruction based on SAS standards and benchmarks
- Constant collaboration with not only campus faculty but cross campus collaboration.

2. Designs coherent instruction
3. Demonstrates knowledge of resources
- Varied teaching methods, strategies, activities and assessments
4. Utilizes assessments to guide instructional planning
- Pre-assessments (beginning of units) What do students know about the 1950’s?
5. Participates in collaborative planning
- Creation of Co-Planning sheetsDevelopment of Common Assessments
